Reports and interviews from HPR's Dave Lawrence

Following up Booker T. Jones of Booker T and the M.G.'s as our guest last week , HPR's All Things Considered continues the diversity with Max Cavalera of Soulfly.

This week on Helping Hand we’re learning about Habitat for Humanity Maui, including their innovative ReStore and upcoming benefit golf event November 14 on the Valley Isle with our guest Polly MacRoberts, ReStore Manager, at Habitat for Humanity Maui.

This week we learn about how a Maui facility played a vital role in detecting an astronomical feature that factored into our Halloween weekend as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

Booker T. Jones of Booker T & The M.G.'s is touring, supporting his latest album, Sound The Alarm. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, is performing as the headliner of the Hallowbaloo Music and Arts Festival Saturday, and at the MACC on Maui Thursday November 5th.

This week on Helping Hand we’re learning about November being Epilepsy Awareness Month and the Epilepsy Foundation Hawai‘i 3rd annual Living Well with Epilepsy Conference on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Queen’s Conference Center. We hear more about this invaluable free conference with our guest the President of the Board of Directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawai‘i, Lacey Shimabukuro.

Last week as we were conducting our fall pledge drive, the music world lost Corey Wells. Three Dog Night’s singer and one of the founders of the group, Corey Wells passed away on October 20th in his sleep at home in Dunkirk, New York. He was 74. The band had a long relationship with Hawai'i, and to honor his life, HPR All Things Considered Honolulu Host Dave Lawrence airs a 2007 interview with him today on the program.

We’ve got a few things to try and spot in our dark island skies this week, plus we hear about another project relating to Mars being carried out on Hawai‘i Island as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

In addition to finding out what we can look for in our dark island skies, we hear about an unusual discovery by a combination of researchers, including multiple observatories on the Mauna Kea summit, as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

We’ve got planets to look for in our dark skies plus a major discovery on the outer reaches of the Solar System that was assisted by facilities at the Mauna Kea summit astronomy community as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

All Things Considered follows up last week's John McLaughlin album preview and interview with Jake Shimabukuro and his new album, Travels. After a week of sampling the new release by the ukulele virtuoso, All Things Considered offers a finale: Jake live in the Atherton Performing Arts Studio! It's his third such appearance with local ATC Host Dave Lawrence, and the two explored music from the album, and the influences that went into it.
