Legendary musician Roger McGuinn is headed back to the islands for a solo tour. The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame member was a part of The Byrds, and has had an interesting career, including working with Bob Dylan, testifying before the Senate about downloading music and maintaining an online effort for almost twenty years to keep folk music alive. Ahead of his island tour that starts Saturday on Kaua'i, he spoke to All Things Considered HPR Host Dave Lawrence

Venus, Jupiter and Saturn are on the radar, plus we have a major meteor shower this week, and you may be surprised what we learn about it, as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

This week we’re welcoming back returning guests the National Federation of the Blind of Hawai‘i. The National Federation of the Blind of Hawai'i is made up of members of our community who are blind, helping other blind people and the general public with networking, advocacy and other invaluable resources on issues relating to their integration into the community.

We’ll have chances to see several planets in our night sky, we get the heads up on a future meteor shower, and we return to the Mauna Kea summit and a discovery relating to colliding galaxies as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

Helping Hand celebrates the invaluable folks at Hawai'i Meals On Wheels this week, helping bring nutrition and socialization to elderly, disabled and other folks who have a hard time getting around.  Executive Director of Hawai‘i Meals on Wheels, Claire Shimabukuro and Nutrition Volunteer Dash Holland join HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence.

Joe Satriani released a new album last week, Shockwave Supernova. The guitarist has been ranked as the biggest selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, with sales of over ten million albums worldwide.

We’ll hear where to look for passing planets in our Aloha State skies, and we find out how several of the observatories on the Mauna Kea summit are providing crucial assistance in the NASA mission to Pluto as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.

At the event, Dr. Justin Ichida, an Assistant Professor of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at USC, and an ‘Iolani School grad, will be the keynote speaker, discussing his research and efforts in partnership with The ALS Association Golden West Chapter to bring a research project to Hawai'i.

The planets Venus and Jupiter set earlier in the evening, Saturn is setting in the early morning hours, and we return to the Mauna Kea summit to learn about the discovery of a planetary nebula called the Space Butterfly as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Christopher Phillips from the Mauna Kea Astronomy Outreach Committee for this week’s Stargazer.
