This morning Hawaii Public Radio hosted a press conference to announce the debut of the Radio Flyers Program.

Hawaii Public Radio, Hawaiian Airlines and The Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children are combining forces in this unique charitable contribution.

It all started with one of the largest individual donations in the 32 year history of Hawaii Public Radio.  Real estate developer and long time HPR member Dick Gushman is giving $100,000 to HPR, and like many members, he’s taking advantage of a program that gives him “HawaiianMiles” as a thank you gift.

That donation translates to a million miles…and those are being contributed to the Family Fund at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children.

The gift will allow neighbor island children and their families to fly to Honolulu for treatment.  Mr. Gushman hopes that this gift will inspire others to donate their Hawaii Miles earned during the Celebration 2013 Pledge Drive kicking off Wednesday in HPR.
